Concrete Estimating Manager

Basic Function

Oversee estimating of commercial construction projects and management of estimating team. This includes all conceptual negotiated and hard bid estimates. Interface with project managers, all support teams and client relations to achieve precise estimates. Manage and coordinate the activities of the estimating department.

Essential Duties:

  • Manage cost estimating team;
  • Prepare estimates (cost plans, cost strategies, change order reviews);
  • Assess work in progress and bid analyses;
  • Negotiate with contractors and meet with clients to review status of work;
  • Review/convert data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports into manpower estimates;
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings;
  • Attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate;
  • Maintain an up-to-date file or library of material suppliers, current labor laws, equipment rental rates, and qualified subcontractors;
  • Provide bid work and final estimating input on complex projects;
  • Provide technical support to staff preparing estimates for assigned bids;
  • Insures all working documents and data are maintained to back-up estimate figures;
  • Maintain and supervise adequate estimate and plan files
  • Tracks awarded contracts;
  • Prepare preliminary construction schedules

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient with industry practices, processes, and standards; knowledge of applicable building codes
  • Able to perform and instruct others
  • Able to read, interpret, prepare and work from plans, drawings and sketches
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Knowledgeable in current industry estimating software
  • Communication and organization skills


  • BA/BS in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field with 10-15 years of industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of standard construction practices and processes, construction materials, and related applications
  • Experience with supervision of staff
  • Experience with estimating software (ICE)
  • Experience with commercial concrete estimates
