Wells Fargo Home Mortgage Headquarters

About this Project

Wells Fargo Home Mortgage Headquarters is a three story, 330,000 square foot Class A office building that is the Local Headquarters for the Wells Fargo Headquarters and is located in Frederick Maryland’s Riverside Research Park.

Challenges

This project had a thirteen-month schedule from start to finish.  Bad soils required major undercutting and backfill of all footings.  With only 110,000 square feet of slab on grade to work with, MK Concrete Construction installed an additional 30,000 square feet of casting beds, which were used for forming the 180 tilt-up wall panels.  All window openings were guaranteed to expedite the manufacture and installation of all glazing.  Over 3,200 steel embeds were installed for the building steel connections, which were coordinated with the bracing of the 180 tilt-up panels that had up to five braces each.

Solutions

Coordination with the architect, structural engineer, general contractor, subcontractors, and major suppliers prior to groundbreaking allowed the steel package to be ordered well before the final drawings were completed, which allowed MK Concrete Construction to install all concrete ahead of schedule.

Results

All 180 tilt-up panels were erected fourteen weeks after starting footings, and all concrete slabs were completed three and a half months later.  Wells Fargo was completed ahead of schedule, winning an Award for Excellence in Concrete Construction from the American Concrete Institute and a Tilt-Up Achievement Award from the Tilt-Up Concrete Association.
